Fish restaurants near me 6313412/17/2023 ![]() Service was great and the food was delicious. (Yes, I know the ginger is there to cleanse the palate, and I'll continue to use it as I like, lol.) The vegetable roll was helped with a dab of wasabi and a small piece of pickled ginger on top. Reminded me why I like rolls with fish, to bring interesting texture. Someone appeared as the person waiting tables and I were discussing it, and said it's also got mirin in it, which is why it hasn't tasted quite the same when I try to make it at home. The kamikaze roll was very tasty, with the honey-wasabi mayo I love from Drunken Fish. I ordered the vegetable roll and the kamikaze roll. □ I got them boxed up to be done with them. ![]() And the sauce for the calamari was attracting fruit flies, which seem to be a problem at this restaurant. I also got a handful of scalding hot oil when I bit into one. I wasn't fond of the texture (very rubbery and too chicken-like for this pescatarian). It comes in a clever little covered bowl. I decided to rectify that on a Sunday afternoon when I arrived in the CWE too late for brunch. I've loved takeout from Drunken Fish but, because I moved to STL shortly before the pandemic, I'd never dined in. ![]() It felt like a good work environment where people genuinely enjoyed what they were doing. The staff were so kind, helpful, and cheery. I preferred the Tiger Style burrito, the tempura added a much-needed crunch. The burritos are cut in half and we were able to easily share them with one another. Both were too big for either of us to finish. My husband and I ordered the regular OG Fire and large Tiger Style burritos. The burritos are wrapped in seaweed, so if that's not your thing, you can order a bowl instead. I thought there would be too much rice holding it all together and it would dampen the flavors on the inside, but that was far from the case. I've never had another opportunity outside of BLK MKT Eats to have a sushi burrito. My only complaint about the dining space is that it's much too small for a place that makes such fantastic and unique food. When this out-of-town friend came to spend the week in the area, we made a Friday afternoon lunch date to the city with four adults and two toddlers. My friends have been talking this place up for months, if not years. I would go back but maybe not for a special occasion. We were seated quickly with our reservation and had a nice night in general. The restaurant was clean and looked nice. It was a very nice gesture but I was kinda wanting something else and I would have gladly paid for it. We were offered a dessert menu but since it was our anniversary, the waitress brought us a bread pudding with a candle. My husband's pasta was lacking any flavor to the sauce and was similar to any pasta dish at any chain restaurant across the country. I thought my meal was very good and was perfect portions of all that came with it. My main dish was a surf and turf and my husband got some kind of Seafood Pasta. The calamari was very good and the peppers that were cooked with it were a nice touch. ![]() I ordered a glass of wine and calamari and were told we would get bread. But the tables were close and you could hear conversations without trying to listen It was awkward. I guess they were trying to keep the servers tables close together. I almost ask to be moved because of all the space in the entire restaurant we were seated the second table in from the door in the middle of 3 other parties. We arrived 5 min before our reservation and were seated quickly. There were lots of barriers and road blocks to circumvent. We walked from our hotel but I immediately noticed I would have had a hard time parking because of the location. I will first say that getting to the restaurant is interesting because it's right outside the Aquarium under the "awnings". I typically would not have chosen a chain restaurant while visiting a new city but in this case did. What I ran into a lot was that these types of restaurants seem closed on Sundays after lunch and or closed all day Monday. When planning a trip to St Louis for our anniversary, we were looking for restaurants that took reservations and were anniversary worthy. ![]()
